Our Mission in Mozambique
Educating, transforming lives, and creating opportunities!
Imagine living in a community where many children have never held a pencil, where Portuguese is an unknown language, and where the opportunities for a better future seem distant and unattainable. Now imagine a place where hope begins to bloom, and education, food, and the love of Christ are transforming the lives of hundreds of children and adults. This is the Africa Urgent Project, which since 2016 has been a light of transformation in the province of Niassa.
Our work goes far beyond literacy. In a challenging context, where social and economic conditions are adverse, we have the privilege of counting on a team of 10 dedicated teachers who provide education from early childhood through primary school, as well as literacy and schooling programs for adults. We know that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and that is why our mission is to offer a complete and inclusive education—also including music education and computer classes—preparing our students for an increasingly dynamic and technological world.
What sets us apart? A modern and dynamic approach that not only teaches, but inspires. We see a growing interest from the community in our activities, and many parents seek our school when they witness the success of neighbors whose children now read, write, and communicate fluently in Portuguese—an achievement that once seemed impossible. At our school, children do not only learn to read and write; they learn Portuguese from the ground up, a skill that opens doors to a future of opportunities. For many, this project is not just a place of learning, but a pathway to a new beginning.
A PROJECT BORN FROM THE HEART OF GOD
The Africa Urgent Project was born from the heart of God and from the missionary vision of Pastor Joel Costa, president of Assembly of God – Bethlehem Ministry – USA. The desire to transform lives through education and the love of Christ is what propelled the creation of this project, which has become a reference point of hope and transformation for the entire province of Niassa.
Since the beginning, we have counted on the support and partnership of the Igreja Assembleia de Deus de Moçambique, which has been a fundamental ally in this mission. Together, we are offering not only education, but also Christian values that shape the character and future of children. The love of Christ is present in every action of the project—whether in daily prayers, devotional classes, or celebration services held every Friday, bringing together students, teachers, and their families for moments of spiritual growth.
