Basic Sanitation and Hygiene

Worldwide, around 2.6 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation. Basic sanitation and hygiene education can prevent the spread of communities lives and protect the economy from disease.

In areas where Assembly of God Ministry of Belém - USA and its partners work, communities often do not have access to sanitation systems. In most cases, latrines or other facilities are not available, which leads residents to relieve themselves in the open air. Consequently, nearby streams and other sources of water - which families use for drinking, bathing and other domestic uses - can quickly become contaminated, causing diarrhea and other common diseases. Since hygiene and sanitation practices are linked to the preservation and Water, our approach addresses these issues holistically for a more sustainable, more sustainable impact. We support communities in the construction of hand washing stations and latrines.

Our efforts are combined with community health and hygiene workshops. Through these workshops, people learn healthy practices that help reduce the spread of malaria, as well as diarrhea and other waterborne diseases in communities. In addition, proper waste management and garbage collection helps protect land and water. All solutions are locally driven to ensure that the program fits into the context of each community.

Your contributions help communities protect themselves and prevent the spread of the disease by:

Support the construction and improvement of sanitary toilets and composting latrines to help reduce contamination;
Activating the installation of hand washing stations next to latrines in homes and schools;
Provide hand washing education and other appropriate hygiene practices;
Train health workers in the local community to train residents in waste insurance and waste disposal;
Ensure the security of land and water sources through integrated sanitation, hygiene and water programs;

In needy areas, we collaborate with community members to increase access and availability of food. By helping people identify their own unique resources, knowledge and skills, our efforts create long-term agricultural strategies that will help families feed themselves while protecting the environment.
